Sutherland Complaints - Complaints against John Sutherland

There was an article about John Sutherland in Vancouver Sun newspaper of Tuesday, March 1, 1949. The article contained biographical details about John Sutherland and Sutherland complaints for making noise because of his passion for playing bagpipes.

John Sutherland, a 60 year old Vancouver resident was known for playing bagpipes in his relaxed hours and has been to jail about 20 times for playing bagpipes as a number of Sutherland complaints were filed against him for playing bagpipes. John Sutherland complained too that every time he got arrested his bagpipes were broken. It is appalling that due to Sutherland complaints, he was jailed 20 times for playing his pipes.

Police asked Sutherland to stop playing bagpipes as they received a number of Sutherland complaints for creating noise throughout the neighborhood. Sutherland complaints point towards the fact that bagpipes has not been one of people favorite instrument.

But in spite of all Sutherland complaints Sutherland was unapologetic. He said "I'll keep on playing. They can't touch me." Sutherland also declared that he was not begging but if people gave him money for playing he cannot help it. The Police Chief Walter Mulligan asserted that they will do their duty whenever they receive complaints against Sutherland.

But even after so many arrests Sutherland did not deter from playing bagpipes. This incident emphasizes on the irrepressible attitude of the Scots.
